Worcester end losing Championship streak
Worcester Wolves 84-79 Surrey Scorchers (22-12, 51-31, 64-53)
Worcester Wolves ended their losing streak in the BBL Championship Friday night, defeating Surrey Scorchers 84-79.
The win marks just the second time Wolves have won in the Championship, the previous win being their very first game of the season when they defeated Plymouth Raiders.
Leading scorers – Deshawn Freeman 23, Robert Crawford 16, Darrell Combs 12 (Wolves) – Tayo Ogdengbe 23, Morakinyo Williams 13, Anthony Elechi 13 (Scorchers)
Turning point – Coming into the second quarter ten points behind, Surrey managed to bring Worcester’s lead down to just four points in the opening minutes of the second, but an 8-0 run from Worcester pushed them back ahead by 12 and by half-time they had established a massive 20 point lead, from which there was no point of return for Surrey.
Key stat – Worcester shot an impressive 58% from the field, cancelling out the need for any second chance points.
Game hero – Freeman put up a 23 point performance and also obtained four steals.
