17-19 Jan: What’s coming up in the BBL this weekend?

It’s one of the biggest weekends in the BBL so far this season as there are eight BBL Championship clashes as well as the first of the four BBL Trophy Quarter Finals.

We take a quick look at what you can expect this weekend!

BRISTOL FLYERS V LONDON CITY ROYALS

Competition: BBL Championship

Bristol Flyers and London City Royals are certainly no strangers to each other. Friday’s game will be the fifth time this season the two teams have met across BBL competitions. This time however it’s their first meeting in the BBL Championship and with the previous meeting being the game that Bristol won to knock the Royals out of the BBL Cup, it’s no doubt Royals will be seeking revenge.

RADISSON RED GLASGOW ROCKS V B. BRAUN SHEFFIELD SHARKS

Venue: Emirates Arena
Competition: BBL Championship

It’s 1 win a-piece for both Radisson Red Glasgow Rocks and B. Braun Sheffield Sharks this season of their only two meetings so far. Rocks will be wanting to continue to narrow the gap between them and first place London Lions in the Championship whilst Sharks will be looking to pick up a win following a week’s break.

LEICESTER RIDERS V WORCESTER WOLVES

Competition: BBL Championship

After Worcester Wolves ended Leicester Riders’ hopes of making the BBL Cup Final in just over a week’s time, it’s no doubt Riders will be out for revenge when they meet Worcester on Friday, and looking to bounce back with a win after a slew of recent losses.

LONDON LIONS V SURREY SCORCHERS

London Lions will be looking to continue their lead at the top of the BBL Championship on Friday when they meet Surrey Scorchers at home. The Lions are coming off a double-win weekend whilst Scorchers will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Newcastle last Saturday.

NEWCASTLE EAGLES V CHESHIRE PHOENIX

Competition: BBL Championship

It’s the first meeting in the BBL Championship for Newcastle Eagles and Cheshire Phoenix and the Nix are hoping to pick up their first win over the Eagles in more than a year. Of the last five meetings, Eagles have emerged victors each time so Phoenix will be hoping to bring that unfortunate streak to an end on Friday.

It’s been a tough Championship season for Plymouth Raiders this season, as they’re still seeking their first BBL Championship win. And with Surrey Scorchers having already played top-of-the-table London Lions on Friday, perhaps it’ll be advantage Plymouth come Saturday night.

B. BRAUN SHEFFIELD SHARKS V LONDON LIONS

Competition: BBL Championship

It’ll be B. Braun Sheffield Sharks’ first home game in the BBL Championship on Sunday and it’ll no doubt prove a challenge as they meet top-of-the-table London Lions. It’s also the second meeting of the two teams in the BBL Championship, so a win for Sharks will no doubt boost their Championship hopes.

MANCHESTER GIANTS V NEWCASTLE EAGLES

It’s the first Quarter Final in the BBL Trophy as Radisson Red Glasgow Rocks will meet Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday. The two teams have already met three times this season with Glasgow coming out on top on the last two. Will Cheshire be able to topple Rocks and push themselves into the Semi-Finals?
