BBL Team of the Week #20

Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders big man Jason Johnson leads the Team of the Week this week, after his inspiring performance in the Riders 89-80 defeat of Worthing Thunder, on Saturday night. The BBL rookie had 21 points and 14 rebounds by half time, and converted this into 28 points and 19 rebounds by the final buzzer. Shooting 12/17 from the field, a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line, he also dished out 4 assists, blocked 3 shots and seized 2 steals in his 31 minutes on court.

Jerome Gumbs, of Everton Tigers, joins Johnson as the other forward, after scoring 27 points in the Tigers win over Glasgow Rocks. 5/8 free throw shooting and 11/16 field goal shooting were both highlights of the performance, and the 6’6’’ US Virgin Islands born rookie also pulled down 12 rebounds, and handed out 3 assists.

Sheffield pair Ryan Patton and Tafari Toney both feature this week, as they stepped up to compensate for the absence of two time BBL Player of the Month Mike Cook. Patton went 6/9 from three point and hit all six of his free throws, as well as a handy 7 assists. Toney, a Team GB call-up last year, notched 31 points, 15 rebounds, shooting a perfect 9/9 from the free throw line.

Combining with Patton at the guard spots, is Chez Marks of Cheshire Jets, who secured his place with an impressive 33 points, hitting 7 of his 9 attempts from the floor, 6/9 from three point, 4 assists and 3 steals.
