BBL Team of the Week #25

The BBL Team of the Week this week features both regulars and newcomers, as Jessie Sapp and Kastytis Normantas take the guard spots, Jason Johnson is once again this week’s power forward, Mike Tuck features as the second forward, and at Centre is Darius Defoe.

Sapp earned his place because of his performance, in the absence of backcourt partner Rob Yanders, in the Rocks’ convincing victory over Marshall MK Lions. The American had a huge 39 points, on 10/12 field goal shooting, 4/7 from the three point line and 70% from the free throw line. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out an outstanding 10 assists.

Normantas, who arrived at Worcester Wolves following the appointment of Paul James as coach, sealed his place in the Team of the Week with a perfect 8/8 shooting performance from the floor, as well as 12/15 from the charity stripe, and was one rebound off a double-double with 10 rebounds, as he amassed 31 points personal, as well as finding his team mates for 6 assists, and causing havoc at the defensive end with 3 steals.

As the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders solidify their fourth place in the BBL Championship, they put some more pressure on third placed Glasgow Rocks, who after their defeat of the Lions fell 88-80 to the Riders in the East Midlands on Saturday. It was in this game that Team of the Week regular, Jason Johnson, stood out, as he scored 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, as well as keeping his team mates involved with 6 assists.

Mike Tuck, who joined the Sharks mid-season and has made an impact in the league ever since, posted impressive numbers of 25 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 steals as the Sharks beat Everton Tigers 110-102 after overtime. He takes the second forward spot, and completing the Team of the Week is Darius Defoe, who’s  10/12 field goal shooting helped him to 21 points in just over 18 minutes - he was a major part of Newcastle Eagles’ defence of the BBL Trophy, as they triumphed 111-95 over Cheshire Jets at Guildford Spectrum.
