Finalists Confirmed

The two teams playing in the BBL Playoff Final are now confirmed, as Everton Tigers will face Glasgow Rocks in their second Playoff Final appearance in as many seasons. The Tigers sealed their place at the NIA in Birmingham thanks to back-to- back wins over Newcastle Eagles, with the score line being identical (95-79) each time. The Rocks meanwhile, reached their first Playoff Final since 2007 as they beat Sheffield Sharks 93-90 on Friday night, and 75-64 yesterday evening.

In the Tigers-Eagles encounters, it was former Eagles, Olu Babalola and Trey Moore, who shone through, as Moore scored an outstanding 33 points in the first leg, and Babalola scored 24 points in the second leg as they took it in turns to lead all scorers. In the final games of a very successful season for the Eagles, Team GB Captain Andrew Sullivan was the top performer on Friday with 25 points and 8 rebounds, whilst Lynard Stewart scored 17 points to lead the Eagles scoring on Saturday.

The Rocks-Sharks Semi Final was always going to be a tight one, considering that Sterling Davis’ Rocks side finished just behind the Sharks in the league at the end of the regular season. Davis said beforehand that keeping the league’s leading scorer, Mike Cook relatively quiet, was key to his side’s chances of success. However, the former NBA D-League star had 32 points to lead the scoring in Friday’s game, whilst Tafari ‘Tap’ Toney and Matt Gorman had 19 and 14 points respectively.

For the Rocks, player-coach Davis was in impressive form with 22 points, whilst high-performing guard duo, Jessie Sapp and Rob Yanders, had 18 and 16 points respectively. Yanders then found the inspirational form that his seen him become a league All-Star five times, as he hit 4/9 three pointers and 8/9 free throws on his way to 28 points. For the Sharks, Molten BBL Player of the Year Mike Cook led the charge with 20 points.

BBL Playoff Final day is the grand finale of the BBL calendar, and this year it promises to be a spectacular day of top quality basketball action, with the Final and Team Colours BBL All Star Game, supported by entertainment from the high flying acrobatic dunkers, the FACE Team, the BBL Babes cheerleaders and mascots. There are also opportunities to be a BBL Player’s mascot or sit on the Player bench for the All Star Game. Click here for more information on the event, or to book your tickets now.
