All Star 5 – Week 11

The BBL Cup quarter-finals have resulted in five familiar faces making the BBL All-Star 5 for week 11, including a fascinating point guard battle as London City Royals knocked Cheshire Phoenix out at Crystal Palace.

Andrew Lawrence – London City Royals

Royals put up a century in progressing to the Cup semi-finals for the first time, and GB point guard Lawrence had a hand in half of the baskets they scored with a big double-double of 21 points and 13 assists, on 9-12 (75%) shooting including a perfect 8-8 inside. It is his third appearance of the campaign so far, in just seven games played.

Cortez Edwards – Worcester Wolves

Wolves edged a close one with Newcastle Eagles, and Cortez Edwards – making his fourth appearance – was the only player this weekend to play all 40 minutes. It was another do-it-all performance as he went for 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, including hitting all four of his three-point attempts, two of which came among his 10 points in a close fourth quarter.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright – Cheshire Phoenix

The 2018 Cup winners slipped out on the road at Royals, despite a determined performance from their point guard, who is in the All-Star 5 for a third time. Jackson-Cartwright had a double-double of 20 points and 13 assists, and in a captivating personal battle with his opposite number, Lawrence, he had a hand in two-thirds of his team’s baskets on the night.

Mike Morsell – Newcastle Eagles

Morsell makes his first appearance in the starting five since the opening week of the season, after leading the weekend’s scoring with 30 points on the road at Worcester, also adding seven rebounds and three steals. That included a big ‘and-one’ play to tie the game inside the last three minutes, but proved to be in vain.

Matt Scott – London City Royals

Tying Cortez Edwards for the most appearances so far this season – also a fourth along with Brandon Peel – is Matt Scott, who shot 9-13 (69%) on the inside for 19 points as Royals won at Crystal Palace. He is second in the BBL in points and steals, and on this occasion added five rebounds, four assists and three steals to his scoring tally.

Off the bench: Jordan Williams (Worcester Wolves), Gentry Thomas (Bristol Flyers), Marcus Delpeche (Bristol Flyers), CJ Gettys (Newcastle Eagles), Mackey McKnight (B. Braun Sheffield Sharks), Kyron Cartwright (Leicester Riders), Andy Thomson (Leicester Riders).
