BBL on the BBC: Can the Lions be tamed at home by the Raiders?

We get the lowdown on the next BBL game on BBC Sport this season as the Lions and Raiders clash on Friday.

London Lions v Plymouth Raiders

Details: Friday 22 December 2017, 7:30pm, Copper Box Arena, BBL Championship

Summary: This week sees London Lions (6-4) take on Plymouth Raiders (4-8) having not lost at home in the league so far this season.

The Lions have won all three of their league games at the Copper Box so far and edged out Plymouth when they met in Devon earlier this season.

Since ending the perfect record of Esh Group Eagles Newcastle at the end of last month, the Raiders have slipped to three straight league defeats.

Quote: “I think that this Friday’s game against Plymouth should be a fun one,” Lions forward, Brandon Peel. “It was close last time we played them at their home gym, so a televised game at the Copper Box is sure to spark a competitive edge for both teams.”

Quote: “We have just got to stay together, play together and make sure we execute our plays,” Raiders forward, Kinu Rochford. “We have to come together as a team against them – it will be a good game.”

BBL commentator Daniel Routledge: “This is an intriguing game to me because I think this is a game both teams could really do with. Obviously London had that disappointment in the Cup last time out at home and with four losses already in the league, they’ll be looking to get back to that momentum that saw them win five in a row in November and early December.

“And, Plymouth I think are better than 4-8, they have a good run in them and this would be the sort of game that could spark that if they can grab a win.

“Also, I can’t wait to see the point guard match-up, it’s going to be fascinating to see Justin Robinson and Neil Watson going head-to-head. Robinson has been even better than I expected this season, he leads the league in efficiency, which is really hard to do from the point guard spot, and his shooting numbers are just ridiculously good.

“Watson is having his best year scoring-wise and his assist numbers are right up there with his first season at Leicester, so you have two guys who are capable of really going off, but also able to find their team-mates, which should be fun to watch.”

Three points:

• London won 70-75 away at Plymouth when the teams met in November
• Justin Robinson is the leading scorer for the Lions in his first BBL season
• Neil Watson and Brandon Penn have both scored 200+ points in the BBL Championship so far

WBBL: BA London Lions v Nottingham Wildcats (5pm)
