DBL Sharks Sheffield v Cheshire Phoenix
Details: Friday 09 March 2018, 7:30pm, EIS Sheffield, BBL Championship
Summary: Sheffield will be looking to bounce back from their defeat in the Trophy Final on Sunday as they take on the BBL Cup champions on Friday. Cheshire have lost 5 of their last 7 games since winning the Cup and currently sit outside of the Play-Off places.
BBL commentator, Dan Routledge:
“This is a pretty important time for the ‘Nix, they are making up the games on the teams ahead of them, but the table will look significantly different for them on Sunday evening if they come out with two wins compared to two losses.
“They have a tough run of fixtures, playing four of the top six, three of them away in the space eight days and even after that they have a back-to-back at Bristol and home to Plymouth. March is a tough month for them. We’ve seen them perform so well in big games this season in that Cup run, but given how competitive it is in the middle of the table, they won’t want to get behind in the play-off race over the next few weeks.
“Obviously it’s Sheffield’s first game post the trophy final, so we’ll see how they react from what was a heart-breaking way to lose a game. I’ve seen that shot so many times on social media now and every time I look at it, I’m convinced after the first bobble it’s going to drop in. You could see on their faces at the end, it was a tough one to take, but I’m sure they will use it to fire their play-off push.
“I’m also intrigued to see how the Rocks line up, they’ve a couple of new guys on the roster which gives them good depth right now, so it will be interesting to see how that works before the Commonwealth Games. It’s always fun at this time of year, but I’m not sure I can remember a time when there was so little between third and ninth in the table if you look at the loss column, both these games are important in that respect..”

Glasgow Rocks v Cheshire Phoenix
Details: Sunday 11 March 2018, 7:30pm, Emirates Arena, BBL Championship
Summary: Last week saw the Rocks’ team divide in a Glasgow Select v Scotland battle before the Trophy Final, but they will be looking to get back on the same page ahead of the visit of Cheshire. The Rocks have a cushion in third place with Cheshire finishing a tough double-header on the road.
“It’s a big weekend for us – two big road games against two good opponents,” Phoenix centre GJ Gettys. “Sheffield is obviously playing good basketball right now after coming up short in the Trophy Final and will want to avenge that loss.
“Glasgow is sitting in either second or third for a reason – a very good team with great experience, led by Kieron Achara – who is a great leader for that team.
“We have to start winning some games to increase our Play-Off chances.”
