DeAndre Burnett believes Leicester Riders are starting to kick on after overcoming a challenging start to the season.
The Riders ventured into Europe with the qualification rounds in the Basketball Champions League before entering the group stages of the FIBA Europe Cup.
And, heading into the second weekend of 2019, the defending league champions sit in fourth place with an 8-3 record. Two wins to open the calendar year came last weekend with Burnett believing they can push on.
“The season has started great in my eyes,” said Burnett. “We had a very tough schedule and a lot of travelling to do, but I think we have managed it as best as we could.
“I think we are now starting to settle in and get our legs back under us.
“With all the travelling and playing, it can really take a toll on your legs, and I think we are now beginning to settle in.”
Burnett is averaging 16.6 points per game in his first season in the BBL with a personal best of 23 points in the league win against Surrey Scorchers, last month.
And, the American guard has his mind set on helping the Riders secure another league title.
“My role on the team is to do whatever I can just to make plays, whether that’s scoring the ball or getting assists.
“The aim is to do our best to repeat as the league champions.
“We know it’s going to be tough because there are a lot of teams playing well right now and as the champions from last year, teams are going to give us their best shot every night.
“So the plan is to lock in one game at a time and give it our all.”
