Cheshire Phoenix have strengthened their roster with the return of CJ Gettys, whilst signing rookie forward Jalen Hayes.
Gettys helped the club win the BBL Cup in his first season as a pro and made the Molten BBL Team of the Year after averaging 18 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
“Firstly I would like to thank the staff of the Cheshire Phoenix for welcoming me back,” he said.
“Secondly, after playing in China it made me realise that being in familiar surroundings will suit me better.
“Finally, I’m excited to get back to the UK and help the team in a similar way to last season but this year with the Play-Offs being our main goal.”
Coach Ben Thomas added: “It’s great to have CJ back with us. It’s all happened very quickly but the decision was made easy knowing what he can do on the court.
“He will definitely change the look of our team, but I think it’s what we need. We know that we aren’t rebounding the ball well enough this season and CJ will definitely help us in that area as well as being a clinical scorer in the paint.
“I know he is coming back with a new mindset and ready to get to work to help this team to get where we want to be.”
Meanwhile, Hayes joins out of Oakland University having averaged 18.8 points and 8 rebounds per game in his senior year before being a second round pick in the NBA G-League Draft.
“Jalen has made an immediate impact to the team,” said Thomas. “He will take a while to adjust to the league like all rookies do, but we keep seeing what he is capable of.
“He will help the team have a better presence in the paint which will in turn help our perimeter shooters.
“I know this team has a lot of potential and with the addition of Jalen, I really believe we can put November behind us and kick on.”
Cheshire face Plymouth Raiders on the road in the league on Sunday with both teams at 4-6.
