Dominant First Half Sees Eagles Soar Past Sharks

BBL Cup, Group 3
Newcastle Eagles 97- 87 B. Braun Sheffield Sharks (24-15, 47-29, 75-55, 97-87)
(Eagles – Fletcher 25, Maxwell 22, Edwards 16; Sharks – Lillard 23, Koch 20, Lewis 16)

An impressive first half showing from the Newcastle Eagles saw them pick up a key win over the Sheffield Sharks on Tuesday night.

The result puts some daylight between the two sides in Group 3 of the BBL Cup as the Eagles improved to 3-1 off the back of crucial double-doubles from Rahmon Fletcher and Evan Maxwell.

It was a perfect start for the Eagles as they raced to a double digit lead early in the second quarter, and found themselves 18 points clear at the half as they took advantage of some great three point shooting, capped by a buzzer beater from Andrew Lasker to end a dominant first half for Newcastle.

The Sharks found their footing in the second half and were far more competitive as they improved their shooting fortunes. However the Eagles, led by Fletcher’s impressive 25 points closed the game out and ensured a crucial midweek victory.

The defeat sees the Sharks fall to 1-2 in the BBL Cup as they prepare for the visit of high-flying Leicester Riders whilst the Eagles will welcome London Lions on Friday.
