Newcastle Eagles took first leg advantage against Cheshire Phoenix in their BBL Trophy Semi-Final tie on Sunday.

Both teams kept the margin close throughout the game trading point for point, but Eagles worked harder on the offensive boards, grabbing 23 offensive rebounds over Cheshire’s nine.

Rahmon Fletcher led his team with 23 points whilst Eagles veteran Darius Defoe managed to pick up a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Nix had their answers for the Eagles with Ben Mockford leading the charge with a game high 24 points and teammate Demonte Flannigan was close to a double-double, dropping 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

But the Toon side proved to be better down the stretch and scored some key buckets in the final minutes to close out any chance of a late Cheshire comeback and take a nine point advantage into their second leg on 1 March.
