The countdown to the British Basketball Trophy Finals continues, with another unforgettable day of entertainment in store at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena on Sunday 15 March, 2020.
There have already been plenty of thrills and surprises in the BBL (British Basketball League) Trophy with a final four that includes Solent Kestrels from the NBL (National Basketball League) Division 1 – as one of the four invited non-BBL sides in the competition.
The Kestrels will come up against recent cup finalists Bristol Flyers in a two-legged tie to guarantee a new finalist; with a combined 15 appearances in the other semi-final as five-time winners Newcastle Eagles face four-time winners Cheshire Phoenix.
“Reaching the semi-finals is a great opportunity for our club,” said Cheshire head coach Ben Thomas. “We have a very tough match up against the Newcastle Eagles which will be an interesting battle seeing how the three previous results have gone this season.
“It would be great to make the final, it would be our second in three seasons and this time for the BBL Trophy. We look forward to the battle with the Eagles first but I know everyone really wants to play at the Emirates Arena in March so we will be giving everything we have to get there.”
In the WBBL (Women’s British Basketball League) Trophy, the quartet of Durham Palatinates, Leicester Riders, Sevenoaks Suns and Nottingham Wildcats all went 2-0 during the group phase to advance to the semi-final stages.
Two-time defending champions Leicester will host 2017 winners Sevenoaks, who recently triumphed at the Cup Finals in Birmingham, while Durham – last year’s runners-up – will need to overcome Nottingham on the road to make it back to another final.
Tickets start from £24 for adults and £20 for children, or fans can get closer to the action by purchasing courtside tickets.
