Latvian sharpshooter Ingus Bankevics will return to Manchester Giants for his fifth BBL campaign with the club. The adopted Mancunian had some instrumental performances last season, averaging 14 points per game on 35% three-point shooting, to go with two assists and two rebounds per outing.
Memorably, he hit a pair of last gasp triples including a buzzer-beater to down Bristol Flyers on the road, and shot 7-9 from beyond the arc on his way to 29 points in victory at Plymouth Raiders.
Bankevics first joined Giants ahead of the 2014-15 season, and has played in 127 BBL games in his career, averaging 15 points per game while shooting 38% three-pointers and 82% at the free-throw line, the latter putting him among the BBL’s historic leaders.
Head Coach Danny Byrne commented on Ingus re-signing: “It is a no-brainer to keep Ingus. The guy is a legit shooter, has a phenomenal IQ and is a great teammate who wants to push on from last season.”
Bankevics commented: “I’m very happy to be playing for Giants again. This is my longest time in which I have played for a team, which shows that I am happy and excited in the direction the Coach and club are moving. After a good season last time, hopefully we can pick up more wins and get in the play-offs. It feels like we have unfinished business.
“I hope to see a lot of people at our games and carry on the great support that we get. See you all in September!”
