Glasgow Rocks have confirmed the signing of 6ft 3in American shooting guard, Warren Gillis, for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
Hailing from Philadelphia, he will be making a return to the city as the Rocks look to strengthen their backcourt in the run in to the Commonwealth Games period and the BBL Play-Offs.
Rocks fans will remember Gillis from the 2015-16 season when he averaged 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Gillis signed for ECE Bulls Kapfenberg (Austria-A Bundesliga) back in 2016-17, but sustained an injury which saw him have to sit out that season. He has made a full recovery since then and is eager to make another big impact in the BBL.
Glasgow Rocks General Manager, Daniel Bajwoluk said: “We were in search of a player that would come to Glasgow, feel comfortable, understand the club ethos and most importantly, someone that would not have a negative effect to the chemistry of the team.
“Warren ticked all those boxes and more. We know how effective he can be on the court and we feel that he will play a pivotal role come the business end of the season.”
Head Coach Darryl Wood is excited to be welcoming back Warren to the Rocks for what will be a crucial final 2-3 months for the Glasgow Franchise.
He stated: “It’s exciting to be putting Warren back in a Rocks jersey, he has worked hard to rehab and is excited to dive right in and get himself ready.
“We all know what Warren can bring when he is at his best and there is no pressure to rush this process which is a great position to be in. I am confident he will be a great addition and will add value on and off the court and buy into what we are trying to do and achieve for the rest of the season.”
Gillis is due to arrive in Glasgow today and will be suiting up on Sunday 11th March when the Rocks take on current BBL Cup Champions, Cheshire Phoenix. It what will be the first official home game for the Rocks since the 2nd February.
