Everton Tigers took control of sixth position in the BBL Championship table thanks to a 95-90 victory over the Poujoulat Heat Guildford at the Greenbank Academy on Friday evening.

After both sides traded baskets in the early stages, it was the Tigers who took control in the second quarter, and opened up a ten point lead thanks to some strong shooting from Richard Midgley and David Aliu to lead 46-36 going in at the half.

In the second half, the Tigers scored the opening five points of the third period to take the score out to 51-36. The Heat got themselves back into the game towards the end of the quarter with a 12-2 burst of their own to trim the deficit back to six points at 78-72.

In the final stanza, both sides continued to trade baskets, before an Dean Williams three-pointer got the Heat to within two at 87-85 with 1:10 remaining, but the Tigers held their nerve from the foul-line to secure the all-important victory.

Midgley led the Tigers scoring with 25 points, but it was Tony Dorsey who led all scorers in the game with 26.
