Steve Bucknall finally got what he had been asking for from his PAWS London Capital team as they turned in one of the best defensive performances of the season so far in beating the Everton Tigers 58-69.
The win was the second of the season for the Capital, whilst the Tigers slipped to 0-2. Wes Miller netted 23 points, and was supported by 14 from Tayo Ogedengbe and 10 from Ibrahim Gariba. GB international Chris Haslam led the home side with 21 points.
The Capital stormed out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and, after a tight second quarter, they restricted Everton to just 7 points in the third stanza. The visitors took a 32-50 advantage into the decisive period.
Everton came out fighting in the fourth and looked to get back into the game; they narrowed the gap to six points at 52-58 with 1.42 left before the league's leading scorer, Wes Miller, decided the game. The 5'11" guard netted two consecutive three-pointers to end the Tigers' resistance.
