Poujoulat Heat Guildford leapfrogged themselves into second place in the BBL Championship table thanks to a hard-fought 81-87 victory over the Marshall MK Lions at the Bletchley Leisure Centre on Friday evening.

The Lions started the stronger with a 10-0 run to start the game, before the Heat responded with an 8-0 burst of their own to level the game at 10-10. The Lions began to stamp their authority on the game thanks to a 16-4 tear across the first quarter break to lead 30-21 midway through the second period. The Heat slowly began to close the deficit, but the Lions held onto a five point lead at 42-37 going in at the half.

The second half saw the Heat claw their way back into the game and a 12-0 burst gave them a 50-53 lead. The Lions reclaimed the lead thanks to three-pointers from Terrell Brown and Yorrick Williams to lead by two at 61-59 going into the final stanza.

In the final period, the Lions stretched out their lead, and with a minute remaining, they led 79-73. The Heat broke the game open with a 7-0 run to lead 79-80 with 40 seconds remaining. Mike New reclaimed the lead for the Lions at 81-80, but a three pointer from Ajou Deng gave the Heat the lead at 81-83.

The Lions tried desperately to reclaim the lead, but the Heat secured the victory from the foul-line.

Tony Dorsey led all scorers in the game with 28 points for the Heat, while New led the Lions scoring with 23.
