Marshall MK Lions extended their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions thanks to an 89-75 victory over the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets in their opening game of the BBL Trophy Group stages campaign.
In a game where the home side never trailed, it was Kevin Griffin and Michael New who got the Lions going to put them ahead 13-7 early on, and the Lions held a 27-22 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Both sides traded baskets throughout the second period, but the Lions maintained a five-point advantage at 47-42 going in at half-time.
The second half the Jets begin to edge into the Lions lead, and back-to-back three-pointers to close out the third period trimmed the deficit to six points at 63-57 going into the final stanza.
In the final period, it was the home side who began to pull away from their visitors with some tremendous three-point shooting from Dru Spinks and Yorrick Williams as the Lions edged out to a 72-64 lead. Griffin made sure of the victory for the Lions as he netted the last four points of the game to hand Milton Keynes the victory.
Griffin led the Lions scoring with 17 points, but it was Jason Obazuaye who led all scorers in the game bagging 22 points personal for the Jets.
