British big man Wells signs for Carnegie


Zak Wells was today announced as Leeds Carnegie’s third signing for the inaugural BBL season. 

The 7’0” centre will be joining Carnegie after a successful season for Division One side Hemel Storm, where he posted 9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Wells has also represented England at Under 18’s as well as featuring in last summer’s GB Under 20 squad who played in the European Championship in Romania.

Leeds Carnegie Head Coach Matt Newby is excited to have secured Well’s signature saying “Zak remains one of the strongest prospects of his generation and we feel that the performance environment at Leeds Carnegie Basketball will be key to unlocking his potential, broadening his skill set and developing his game. 

He had a strong season with Hemel Storm and impressed us with his mobility and work ethic.  He stands out as a team oriented player, who is humble and professional in his demeanour.  We feel he will contribute immediately as a legitimate pivot and look forward to seeing him flourish within our programme.
