Watts looking for victory

As his side prepare to face high-flying Surrey Heat on Friday evening, Manchester Giants forward David Watts is looking to put last week's loss against Glasgow Rocks behind him.

The Giants went down 92-82 against the Scottish side last week as Rocks made it three wins from three against the BBL new-boys, but Watts is hoping that the signing of Nick George can provide the spark to get his side going.

"Nick's brought a lot to us, both on and off the floor, and he's really picked things up. People are feeding off his energy and we need that level of fight in the games.

"Against Rocks, it was frustrating again" Watts admitted. "We got so close and had several opportunities to take control, so it was really disappointing. We need to focus for 40 minutes and when we're down we need to continue to show passion.

"We need to put the whole thing together, we've discussed changes at practice and in meeting, we know what we need to do but it is our first year and we're bound to have teething problems."

The Giants go into the game in tenth place with a 6-13 record, while Heat are in third spot with 13 wins from 16 games.

The sides met at Surrey Sports Park six weeks ago, with Heat running out 83-71 winners, and Watts is looking for the crowd at Wright Robinson College to lift his team:

"Surrey are quite a tough team, we played them quite well at their place and were a bit unfortunate to lose. But we're at home this week, and in the last couple of home games the fans have been right behind us. Hopefully their support will push us on."
