Fab Flournoy has been recognised for masterminding an eye-catching start to the new season with Esh Group Eagles Newcastle by landing the first Molten Kevin Cadle BBL Coach of the Month award of the new campaign.
Despite making a number of personnel changes during the summer, the Eagles have hit the ground running and went unbeaten in the period after posting an eye-catching 5-0 start.
While they tipped-off with a far from convincing and narrow 70-65 success at Sport Central against Cheshire Phoenix, they went on to claim four big wins.
Flournoy and Co breezed to an 85-100 victory at Glasgow Rocks, before blowing away rookies London City Royals 110-60. Another one-sided triumph came on the shape of a 114-82 win against Surrey Scorchers and they wrapped up the month by beating Plymouth Raiders 85-103 in what is their longest road trip of the season.
This is the first edition of the newly named Molten Kevin Cadle BBL Coach of the Month accolade. The change was made recently to honour the immense contribution that the legendary play-caller made to the sport.
“It’s a privilege and an honour to be able to receive the first award after the name change,” said Flournoy.
“I think it’s a great thing for the league to recognise Kevin Cadle for all his accomplishments and all the things he’s done to lift British basketball.
“Kevin was a great coach, great ambassador, great leader and this is a great way to make sure he is not forgotten.
“When I first got the coaching job with the Eagles, within a day I got a phone call from Kevin welcoming me as a coach and he never hesitated in offering advice.”
The play-caller added: “This award is a testament to everyone’s hard work at the club. I’m thankful to my coaching staff for helping put together this roster and the players for executing everything we’ve asked so far.”
