Glasgow Rocks have announced that Callum Mortimer will once again pull on a Rocks jersey as a development player during the upcoming 2020-21 season.
The 17-year-old is the youngest player to ever suit up for the franchise and scored points in the BBL last year aged only 16-years-old.
Under Coach Lavandier, Callum showed potential and dedication balancing a heavy practice schedule with his club West Lothian Wolves and the Rocks while still at High School doing his Highers.
This year he has decided to take a gap year to focus on his basketball before going to University in Scotland or his dream to gain a scholarship to attend an American University.
“Callum is a player I have coached previously at camps in Scotland and played with him last year,” said Rocks head coach Gareth Murray.
“He is a young player that is focused on his basketball but understands that his education is very important.
“Speaking with him and his parents over the summer, he decided he wanted to continue with us while taking a year off from studying, he already has a place at University but wants to focus on his basketball.
“He is a welcome addition to the squad. He is a very quiet person but is willing to work hard to improve.
“If I’m honest he reminds me of myself when I was younger. I’m glad I can continue this opportunity for him.”
Mortimer added, “I want to thank Gareth and the Rocks for giving me another opportunity to work on and develop my game and continue where Vincent left off.
“I have missed playing and cant wait to meet, train and compete with the guys, I know it’s going to be hard work but I am ready to learn and excited for this season to start”
Mortimer will be sponsored by the Falkirk Sony Centre for the upcoming season.
