Former London Lions’ guard Alex Owumi is joining Surrey Scorchers for his 11th professional season in basketball.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, he spent the previous two seasons with London Lions after three successful campaigns with Worcester Wolves.
During his time at Wolves, he won the BBL Play-Offs and BBL Trophy in 2014 and left as the club’s all-time leading scorer.
Owumi spoke to surreyscorchers.co.uk about his delight in signing with Scorchers and stated: “I am pleased to join the Scorchers franchise and can’t wait to suit up for Creon [Raftopoulos] and the organization.
“Since being in the league, I have seen Surrey has had a great fan base and can’t wait to win some silverware for the organization.”
Outside of the BBL, Owumi has spent time playing professional basketball in the likes of Macedonia, France and Libya, while also being a published author – writing three books, including an autobiography focusing on his time in the African nation.
He will join Tayo Ogedengbe who recently re-signed for his third season at Scorchers. Further announcements are due in the coming weeks.
