Leicester Riders’ play-caller Rob Paternostro has received the perfect boost ahead of this Sunday’s 2018 BBL Trophy Final against DBL Sharks Sheffield after being crowned Molten BBL Coach of the Month for February.
Paternostro guided the league leaders to a stunning month – one which harvested a fantastic flawless record of 7-0.
Riders achieved this despite having had one of the busiest schedules, winning almost twice as many games as anyone else during the period. They also did it with a basket difference of more than 100, to further underline their dominance.
They started with what turned out to be one of their stiffest tests, a narrow 81-76 victory at Worcester Wolves. This came prior to sweeping aside Manchester Giants 92-58 on their home floor.
The next match-up was one that will be remembered for some time by those who were present and many more watching on Freesports, as Riders outlasted Sharks 98-92 in an epic double overtime clash.
Having won on their travels 86-73 at Cheshire Phoenix to pick up a fourth February league victory, Paternostro then turned his attention to the Trophy Semi-Final with London. Riders put one foot in the showpiece game after recording a 90-81 success in the capital during the first leg and then ruthlessly finished the job 92-65 in the return game.
A perfect month was then wrapped up last weekend, when they collected another triumph against Sunday’s opponents Sheffield, this time picking up a 75-64 win in front of the Freesports cameras.
