With last week’s exciting announcement that the BBL will resume preparations for the imminent season start, Plymouth Raiders have been making moves to complete the jigsaw, acting swiftly to secure the signing of British Centre, Michael Ochereobia.
The 31-year-old former Western Illinois graduate and entrant into the 2014 NBA Draft, most recently lined up for Cheshire Phoenix and previously in Italy with Urbania and French side, Bordeaux.
6’8” Ochereobia is well known to BBL fans having also had a successful spell at Surrey Scorchers in 2016-17. During 2019-20, he averaged eight points and nine rebounds in 24.5 minutes per game.
Raiders fans will remember his Cheshire contributions in two huge rebounding displays where the Nix ran out winners, most recently in a narrow 74/77 pre lockdown tie at the Pavilions.
“I’m excited to be joining the Plymouth Raiders,” said Ochereobia. “I’m stepping into an organisation where I already have great chemistry with the players and coaching staff and I’m looking forward to this year as a Raider.”
Coach Paul James added, “We are delighted with the signing of Michael Ochereobia. His size, physicality, and agility in and around the basket at both ends of the court is going to be crucial for our makeup and success this season.
“Mike recently worked out with us for a few days and we could quickly see that there would be a positive upside to having him on the team. We feel he has a higher ceiling than what he has shown with other clubs and we aim to get the very best out of him.
“We welcome big Mike into our Raiders family and very much look forward to him joining up with the rest of the squad.”
The Raiders have also released Rickey Mcgill from his contract this week.
