Leicester Riders have signed British 6ft 10in forward Chris Tawiah from BK Lions Jindrichuv Hradec in the Czech Republic.
Riders have added to their frontcourt for the remainder of the BBL season with the second year professional providing a different dynamic and additional inside presence. This is particularly important with multiple players eligible for Commonwealth Games Team England selections which are due in coming days.
Tawiah played basketball in the UK before attending Frank Phillips, Iowa Central Community College and then Wiley College. He then headed to the Czech Republic to begin his pro
career and mid-way through his second season with BK Lions Jindrichuv Hradec, he was averaging 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing.
The 24-year old big is looking forward to getting his time at the Riders started and stated: “I’m really grateful, excited and motivated to have joined the Riders.
“Their reputation speaks for itself. The team is playing at a high level and it’s my duty as a player to come in and match that right from the jump.
“The fans can expect to see a hardworking active big man, who is very enthusiastic about being a Rider from now till the last game of the season.”
Tawiah joined the Riders for practice in the build up to the BBL Trophy Final as both parties worked to agree terms. With an agreement now in place, the Milton Keynes native will finish the season with the club.
