Rookie Jackson Hyland gets BBL call up

West Chester University graduate Jackson Hyland will become Coach James’ next signing in the off season. Hyland joins, Wilcher, Hassan, Turner, Brandon and Johnson for the 19/20 season.

Jackson has spent the last four years studying in West Chester University and playing for the Golden Rams in Pennsylvania and recently earned his place in the All-Eastern College Athletics Conference team of the year. During his time with the Rams he worked his way into the team with his impressive performances and continued to improve year on year starting only one game in his freshman year leading up to his senior year and starting all 31 games where he averaged 17.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Some career highlights include a 30 point game over East Stroudsburt, two 27 point games over Bloomsburg and West Liberty and ten 20+ point games across the season.

With the BBL in his sights Jackson said: “I am very much looking forward to starting my professional career in the BBL for the Plymouth Raiders.

“I can’t wait to contribute to a winning team and work side by side with Coach James and all the players.
“I am also looking forward to meeting and playing in front of the great fans of the city of Plymouth and help to bring them a championship!”

Head Coach Paul James added: “I’m pleased to have secured the services of Jackson Hyland for the coming season.

“We are putting together a set of players that not only play the game, but a group that understand and know how to play the game!

“Jackson is a high IQ basketball player and certainly fits the bill.

“I like the fact that everything Jackson has achieved in the game he has had to work hard for and has not been shy in doing so.

“He is a combo guard and will contribute to our team significantly with his scoring capability.

“Also comfortable playing the PG position and being a facilitator, along with his ability to rebound the ball at both ends of the floor, I think we have ourselves a really good player and I’m looking forward to getting started with him and the rest of the team.”
