Surrey Scorchers this morning announced the signing of TrayVonn Wright for the 2020-21 BBL Campaign.
The 28-year-old joins Creon’s exciting new roster with a decorated career to date, including five trophies with the Leicester Riders across four seasons.
After graduating from North Dakota State University in 2014, TrayVonn began his professional career in Austria with WBS Raiffeisen Wels, before making the switch to the Riders.
He was named as the 2018 BBL Play-Off Final MVP following Leicester’s triumph at The O2, completing the treble for Rob Paternostro’s team.
Last season the electric Forward joined the Solent Kestrels during the later stages of their magical BBL Trophy run, averaging 13 points, 2.7 assists and 7 rebounds across three games.
Wright, 6’7″, now returns to the BBL with the Scorchers, teaming up once again wish Rashad Hassan, who were teammates together in Leicester back in 2015.
“I’m excited to have a fresh start at Surrey, and thank the club for giving me the opportunity to play for them,” said Wright.
Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added, “I’ve known TrayVonn for a little while now, he’s been around us for two seasons. We really wanted to make this happen so I’m really excited to add a big piece of experience to our roster.
“One of the key things is to give credit to Leicester and their culture, he and Rashad are both from there, and that makes us stronger.
“He’s very smooth and he’s a coaches player, he will stick to the role you ask him to play. He is the type of selfless player a coach loves to have Speaking to him, one of the first things he said to me is that as a team we need to focus on defence.
“TrayVonn is going to be an exciting player to watch, he’ll be great in the locker room, I know he’s a good teammate.
“There are no weaknesses I can find in having a player like him, I’m very excited.”
