B. Braun Sheffield Sharks are out in front in the BBL Cup North Group after making it five wins in a row on Friday night, while Cheshire Phoenix also put themselves in the box seat for progression with a road win.

Sharks dominated Newcastle Eagles from tip to buzzer in a 93-69 victory at Ponds Forge, their second over this opponent in a week. They raced into a 10-2 lead after allowing Eagles just one basket in the opening five minutes, and never looked back. Nick Lewis had 15 points and six assists by the half – finishing on 19 and bettered by Mike Tuck’s 22 – as Sharks led 51-32 by the break.

Elsewhere, Phoenix put daylight between themselves and Radisson Red Glasgow Rocks in the final qualification place with a 74-72 win north of the border. That came after an 11-2 start to the fourth quarter when Montell McCrae came from the bench to hit six of those points on his way to scoring 14 with nine rebounds; although they still required a Ben Mockford score with 15 seconds left to win it.
