Sharks turn to the exciting Williams as final import

DBL Sharks Sheffield are proud to announce their final American import signing in the shape of 6ft 5in shooting guard/small forward, Dirk Williams.

The versatile Williams played his last two years in his hometown for the University of Alabama at Birmingham who play in the highly-touted Conference USA, which regularly produces NBA and Euroleague players.

“I am excited to get to Sheffield and show what I can do,” said Williams.

“It is a dream to play overseas and after my conversations with Coach [Atiba] Lyons, I feel Sheffield is a great place to start my career.”

Williams has made a name for himself with his smooth game and three-point shot. During his senior year at UAB, he averaged 10 points per game, while shooting 34% from long range. He is also known for playing above the rim and producing spectacular finishes in transition.

“I am very excited to be able to sign Dirk,” said Coach Lyons.

“He is someone I identified early in the summer. He is a player that brings a lot of offensive weapons and is long and athletic – something which makes him a good defender. I think he is a great fit for the team.”

Fans will be able to catch Dirk in action tonight in a preseason friendly versus the Manchester Giants at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield.

The game tips off at 7:30pm, with individual tickets being sold on the door at £10 or £30 for a family of 4.
