‘The Voice’ Dan Routledge – long-time BBL commentator and stats guru – gives his lowdown on Sunday’s BBL Play-Off Final between Leicester Riders and London Lions.
If you are not at The O2 this Sunday then make sure you are tuned in LIVE (ways to watch HERE).
For the last couple of months, it’s kind of felt like these two would be here in the end. The two teams with the best record, the only two to win 30 games, it is a fitting finale to the season.
Since Vince [Macaulay] took over they have been, by some distance, the two teams with the most wins – Riders have been 24-4, Lions 20-6-1, the best of the rest in the league is down at 14 or 13 wins.
I guess Leicester may probably be narrowly the bookies’ favourites, they seem to have found a way to win no matter what this season, but there is something about this London team and the way they have played under Vince that makes me wonder if this might be their time? They started the year celebrating at The O2, there would be a certain symmetry to ending it there with a win as well.
They’ve played six times already and are 3-3, so this is basically a ‘Game 7’. I’ve commentated on five of them, so I’ve seen close up how well matched they are, the last few have been big margins, but I see this one coming down to execution at the end.
It’s the two best defensive teams going head-to-head and I think that’s what it will come down to – who can get the vital stop in the closing moments? I honestly don’t see this being anything but a very close game.
