Worcester Wolves have added Euro Cup experience to their roster with the signing of Maarten Bouwknecht.
The former Dutch international joins Worcester from Netherlands DBL top tier side SPM Shoeters Den Bosch who also competed in the Euro Cup.
The 6’2″ guard averaged 6.64 points and 2.95 assists last season and in the 2016-17 season was awarded DBL Most Improved Player and U23 MVP.
“With Maarten we complement our strong perimeter with a player who does not compromise, his work ethic and professionalism are well documented,” said Worcester Wolves Head Coach Matt Newby.
“He has excellent high-level experience from the top tier of Dutch basketball, including Euro Cup appearances and representing the Dutch national team. He is an up-tempo guard with a high order basketball IQ, strong traits which complement the qualities of the perimeter we have recruited.
“He is a hard-nosed defender and does not shirk responsibility at key moments in the game, happy equally to create or finish the offence.”
Maarten is looking forward to the next chapter in his career, adding, “I chose Worcester Wolves because I’m ready for a new challenge. I’ve played in the Netherlands for 6 years and for me it was time to step out of my comfort zone to get the best out of me. I think this is the perfect place to do so.
“I’m super excited to get started, from what I’ve seen we have a great fan base in the Wolfpack and I would love to please them with my style of play.”
