BBL Cup, Group 1
Bristol Flyers 64-69 Worcester Wolves (28-17, 32-37, 54-46)
(Flyers – Lockett 18, Edozie 15, Okereafor 9; Wolves – Bouwknecht 21, Williams 16, Bryan-Amaning 14)
Worcester Wolves have settled much of the business in BBL Cup Group 1, after winning 69-64 on the road at Bristol Flyers behind 21 points and six assists from Maarten Bouwknecht, and a Jordan Williams double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Ironically, the fate of these two teams is not yet confirmed, but Worcester’s win means that both Plymouth Raiders and Surrey Scorchers will progress to the quarter-finals. Wolves need one more win to do so, while Bristol are left on the verge of elimination.
In a rollercoaster of a game, there were only five lead changes but the teams took turns to hit big runs and win alternate quarters by double-figures. After holding their hosts to just four points in the second stanza, Wolves scored only nine themselves in the third and trailed 54-46 heading into the final ten minutes.
It was Bouwknecht and Matthew Bryan-Amaning who inspired them to the win, as the only players to score in a seven minute spell during which Wolves hit a 9-2 burst to tie the game at 63.
From there, it was a Bouwknecht three-pointer inside the final minute that settled it as Worcester finished with a number of strong defensive stands.
