Quadir Welton becomes the latest signing for Worcester Wolves ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Welton spent his college career at NCAA Division I Saint Peter’s University, entering the starting five in his first season. During his time at Saint Peter’s he helped the team win the 2017 CollegeInsider.com post-season tournament and was awarded MVP.
In Welton’s senior year, he averaged 12 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and was named in the All-MAAC 1st team. Significantly, in that final year, he led the team in scoring, rebounds and blocks.
For his entire career at college, Welton recorded 1,191 points, 884 rebounds, and 136 blocked shots. He graduated, ranking third all-time in career rebounds and career blocks.
He then went on to spend his rookie year at Argentinian side Centro Deportivo Rivadavia de Mendoza averaging 13.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game earning him an All-Argentinian TNA honourable mention.
At 6’8″, he may not be the biggest centre the Wolves have had in the team in recent years, but his strong body, excellent footwork in offence and strong rebounding ability will make him a threat at both ends of the floor.
Welton said: “I would like to thank the Worcester Wolves for allowing me to join their family! I really look forward to coming there, playing and meeting my new teammates and fans. I can’t wait to meet you guys. Go Wolves!”
Managing Director Mick Donovan added: “We have spent a great deal of time trying to find the right player to fill this position and firmly believe that Quadir will offer the versatility, speed and quality at both ends of the court to make a significant impact for the Wolves in the BBL.
“The energy that he brings, with his other new team-mates will also be a critical factor as we move into our new era.”
You can watch Quadir make his debut at the Worcester Wolves season opener on Friday 21 September at the University of Worcester Arena. Tickets are available at www.worcesterwolves.org.
